Art Fart Race- June 2010 Bralleycat
13 riders plus 3 last-minute non-registrants raced to see 7 pieces of public art and make it back to Chelsea's first. This was the 17th straight month of Baton Rouge Alley Cats!
One possible route: http://tinyurl.com/2aepk4h. Riders wrote down the meaning of each artwork. The stops and some winning interpretations:
1) Start at Country Corner store near Perk's on Perkins Rd.
2) Baton Rouge High School: Mural on black background on the west side of the campus's easternmost building (a performance art mural)
a. 'reminds me too much of high school' -Kasey
b. 'America's got 'talent'" -Josh
3) White building on 22nd Street just south of North Blvd: mural on side of building (a crawfish shack mural)
a. 'Don't eat me' -Travis
b. 'Seafood sold here' -Josh
c. 'Seafood makes me hungry' -Kasey
4) New State Capitol: sculpture in alcove at bottom of stairs on north side of building, at lake level (a Native American figure)
a. 'Buried beneath capitalism (capitolism? ed)' -Josh'
b. 'Noble but shit on' -Travis
5) Where Government St. bends around and becomes River Road: white statue in middle of fountain (Christopher Columbus pointing)
a. 'I know the way to whiteyville' -Travis
b. 'Discovering what has already been found' -Josh
c. 'Reminds me of God' -Kasey
6) LSU's main quad: Allen Hall. Portico on northeast corner of building, near library. Large outdoor mural (A new-deal style farmworker mural)
7) Towne Center Mall: Statue at front door of PF Chang restaurant (A stone horse)

b. "She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes" -Kasey
8) Residence on Goodwood Blvd at Airline Hwy. Sculpture in front yard (15-foot tall, lit stature of Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus)

Art Fart Alley Cat

meet at Country Corner store on Perkins, across from Perk's Coffee House Registration at 7, race starts at 7:30. This will be a point-to-point race of at least 23 miles.
